Coffee Primer

The Most Crucial Step

The final element of the four fundamentals of great coffee is the preparation. The three previous elements were: the quality of the green beans, the roasting process, and the preservation. The final two elements combined, preservation and preparation, are more important than the combined first two. The coffee's freshness takes precedence over the green beans and the roast quality. The final element of preparation is perhaps the most important of all. You don't need a set-up like those shown below to make perfect coffee, but there are a few things you should be aware of.

Bad Coffee!

Many of coffee's bad flavors can be traced to incorrect brewing procedures. Most often, they can be attributed to the grind and the amount of coffee used. Many people have a tendency to overgrind and use too much coffee. This creates bitter-tasting coffee.

Make it heavenly!

If you are interested in creating the perfect cup of coffee at home or just enjoy bringing your coffee taste experience to new heights, buy beans from a meticulous roaster. Find the roaster with the best equipment. Store the coffee with the utmost care by preserving its
freshness and not allowing bad things to happen to it such as: rancidity from exposure to the air, moisture absorption, or too fine a grind for the method of brewing. Research the optimum times for brewing coffee that excites, tantalizes, or soothes your coffee flavor desires!

Modify the variables that you have control over. These variables include the amount of coffee used, the type of grind used, amount and quality of water, and methods of preparation such as latte, French press, drip, etc.

Although we can't accompany our coffee to your home to brew it for you, we DO make the first 3 fundamental steps as first-quality as they can ever be in any coffee. We select the best premium green beans, use the best roasting process, and keep the coffee always-fresh. Since double-freezing (freeze/thaw/freeze) creates condensation which increases acidity, we will ship your tightly-sealed coffee to you immediately after roasting so that you can put it directly into your freezer and maintain the unique Mill Bay freshness you will come to expect and love.
